My Journey

## Driven by experience.

I’m Thore Langkat, a nautical officer with hands-on experience at sea and a passion for making maritime operations safer.

I combine practical maritime expertise with academic insight. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nautical Sciences (2026) and am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Operation and Management of Maritime Systems.

Since 2020, I have been researching and developing ideas across different fields with one central ambition: to translate frontline operational experience into practical solutions that help protect crews and make our oceans safer.

Through inventive thinking and collaborative technologies, I aim to develop solutions that support environmental protection, reduce operational risk and ultimately help save lives at sea.

A wearable concept designed to trigger a Man Overboard (MOB) alarm automatically on water contact or manually, and make the person’s live location visible locally and externally.

#### The Challenge

When a person falls overboard, every second matters. Rough seas, darkness and stress can make visual tracking difficult, while delayed detection or missing coordinates can slow down the response. PLOT addresses the need for fast detection and clearer location information during a Man Overboard incident.

#### The Concept

PLOT is envisioned as a smart wearable that can detect water contact or be activated manually. The concept aims to transmit the person’s live position to a vessel’s electronic chart and, where the system design allows, share it with nearby vessels or rescue services.

#### The Challenge

When GNSS signals are disrupted, unavailable or manipulated, navigation can face significant safety, economic and environmental consequences. Maritime systems benefit from resilient alternatives that can complement existing sources of positioning.

#### The Concept

MagPos explores the Earth’s natural magnetic field as an additional source of positioning information. The long-term ambition is a practical, cost-effective and scalable solution that complements existing shipboard instruments and adds another layer of resilience when satellite positioning cannot be relied upon.
